Things I See….in Portland

When in Portland I have to pay for parking. It’s so foreign to me to have to do so. I’m just thankful that I don’t have to carry around coins to feed the meter.

Please, let’s keep life weird! It’s so much more interesting that way, don’t you think???

But mostly, stay beautiful. I am learning to feel more comfortable in the city especially when I get stand back and see it’s beauty.

Greek food and Love

Kaleb and Gab graciously took me out to dinner before we began our shoot in the great city of Portland. I wish I would’ve had a picture of the Greek food we ate. It was good and the service was great. We went to a little place on Burnside in Portland called Alexis. I’ve never went to a restaurant for Greek food, I usually just get a lamb gyro at the Saturday Market. I felt a little silly at first, though. You see, I didn’t pull on the door to open it, I pushed..and pushed…and pushed again. I thought maybe this was a secret restaurant where you had to give them some sort of password or prove to them that you were worthy of eating there. I was beginning to worry, actually, that maybe they wouldn’t let me in. Then, I spy it. A little black button. Ah, that must be it. Maybe I need to push that button to be let in. So I push it. Twice. Then wait. A short man, roughly the same height as myself, opened the door toward me and said, “Why did you ring the bell?” To which I probably replied something totally incoherent since I was so shocked that it never even slightly occurred to me to actually pull on the door handle!

After dinner we walked around downtown Portland for a bit. There are so many great buildings! I love it. I feel like every brick and every doorway has a story to tell. I loved watching the people. I think I could go and spend time just watching all the different people and eavesdropping on their conversations.

Today I went out with my friend Joellen to take pictures of her boys. They are so cute. I haven’t seen them in a while so it was fun to see how much they’ve changed. They’re always a little stand off-ish when I first get there, but they quickly warm up. I’m posting three photos from today, but the first one with Cole trying to open the door is my favorite.

365/107- Rest Day

I spent most of today in my bed. Not because I’m depressed or sick, but because I was tired. It was wonderful. All my kids were away and I didn’t have to think of anything I didn’t want to think about. I watched stuff on hulu, texted a friend, read a book, talked on the phone with a friend, and rested. I love those days.

My dog, Ginger, and my cat, Chance, joined in on all the resting!

Had a great time with da band, who is now officially called 26 Minutes. Film maker, Jerry Monckton also joined us up in Portland today. It was a lot of fun!

It was also very draining. After coming home I took my children to their friends’ houses, came back home, changed in comfy jammies, ate dinner, and fell asleep while watching Fringe. I just took a 3 hour nap. I’m about ready to head back to bed, but I’m going to try to watch Fringe again.

At the end of the day we ended up in a little coffee shop called Coffee. (I’d love to give you a link to that shop, but have you ever tried Googling “Portland Oregon Coffee”?) While there Joshua Humlie, the drummer, decided that he just had to try out the couch. I took this picture while he was pensively staring at the menu.
